Le Massif – Enjoying March Snow – 18 March 2018

The storms last week from the east coast, brought some great snow to the Charlevoix area. We knew arriving four days after meant there was not much powder left but we couldn’t pass up the chance to close our season on one of our favorite mountains. The morning was bright and crisp, making the snow squeaky fast. Right away, we could see there were some icy areas but it was no problem to avoid this on most groomed runs. The sides were usually soft and we warmed up doing a few laps off the Camp-Boule Express. Bluebird days at...

Mont Sainte-Anne – Ski the Greens on St. Paddy’s Day? – 17 March 2018

Not so much… We thought our trip to Salt Lake City would be our last ski days of the year, but the East coast storms last week brought some much-needed snow to Quebec and Vermont to extend their season. Then friends we made on the SLC trip invited us to Mont Sainte Anne for a birthday and the deal was set. I had never skied MSA before, so I was excited to see this hill. I was impressed with the variety and seemingly endless options for moguls. Of course, the views of the St. Lawrence were spectacular in the...

Timbuktu – Jay Peak – 18 February 2018

Where’s Timbuktu? It’s on Jay Peak and you’ll want to be there after 18cm of fresh pow falls the night before. Take the Jet triple chair, go all the way skiers right and find a gap through the trees to drop in. We enjoyed soft butttery snow and lots of different tree spacing to suit our speed and thrill level. Even late in the day we found some pockets of untracked snow. Definetly run(s) of the...

Mont Soleil – Bromont – 17 February 2018

It’s been an up and down ski season this year and I’m not just talking about altitude. The weather leading up to this weekend was warm and wet, followed by cold nights, so skiing was predictably icy. It was obvious on our first run that Bromont, like all the other hills in our region of North America, is pumping out as much snow as they can, but mother nature is not making it easy. Still, we had planned another day of family skiing with our niece and nephews (ages 8 and twin 7 year olds) so the mild temperatures...

La Chouenneuse – Mont Grand-Fonds Charlevoix – 10 February 2018

The hill was in great shape today. Some fresh stuff on the sides and soft carving snow in all areas. Our favorite run today was directly under the chair – La Chouenneuse! Here we could sample the powder and steep bumps while trying not to bail in front of everyone! Super moguls and fantastic apres skis with Vache Folle on tap. The country rock band was excellent tonight. Always a great day at Mont Grand...
