It’s with lots of excitement that my troop and I headed to the Massif on Saturday for the opening day of the season. I have to admit we’d been looking forward to hitting the slopes for a while now. So stoked that the night before, we rented an Airbnb at Petite Rivière St-François. Exceptionally as the Camp-Boule was the only chair lift open, we headed for the upper chalet to start our very anticipated day.
With a discounted lift ticket of 66% offered on both Saturday and Sunday, there was a total of 7 trails opened in the Camp-Boule area.
- La Gagné
- La Jean-Noël
- La Bouchard
- La Desjardins
- La Grande Pointe (Snow park)
- La Lavoie
- La Simard
Considering that we wanted to chill in the morning, as one of us was sick and that the temperature was kind of not inviting due to a windshield of -16c , our day did not begin with first tracks. However our enthusiasm kicked in with the sun being present and the excitement of a new season beginning.
We opened 2019-2020 season with La Simard which was a nice warm up. Once we arrived at the Camp-Boule lift, a DJ was warming up the crowd with upbeat music. We did 2 more runs before we were cold and headed for the chalet to have lunch at the Pub Le Grand Duc where they had ski movie presentations.
The rest of the afternoon, we covered all the 7 trails that were opened. Our legs being more warmed up from skiing in the morning, we had lots of fun carving while enjoying the views of the St-Lawrence river. We skied until the hill closed and then headed for the après-ski where the fun always awaits. As the first après-ski of the season, the Just Jacobus set the place on fire and had everyone grooving to their lively music.
The next activity on the agenda at the Massif, is Santa Claus Day on December 15th. You simply need to show up wearing 2 pieces of costume dressed as Santa Claus, a cheap price of 15$ per lift ticket for a day packed with fun! The money raised will be distributed to organizations that help people in the Charlevoix region.
Have a great and safe season!
