Waking up early Saturday morning, I witnessed gorgeous weather. It cranked me up for the day’s adventure! To be honest, I was just relieved not be under the wacky weather that hit us : tornadoes, rain and high winds. They were finally over. Which meant I could go play outside.

Put my bike on the rack and off I was, heading towards Trois-Rivières for the 7th edition of the OBF, the Octobiker Fest held at Énergie CMB. An annual event to help raise funds for the development of mountain bike trails at Énergie CMB.

What an awesome day it was! A bike festival with races, demo bikes, 20 exhibitors, a kid’s ride, yummy food and drinks, and great entertainment until the end of the day.

Taking advantage of the cool morning breeze, I discovered Énergie CMB. Lots of awesome and flowy trails! Different terrain than what I’m used to. I love how families and kids can have as much fun riding as the expert riders in the “Freeride” trail or on the pump track and dirt jumps. Personally my favourite is the “Top Gun” for its speed.

Then came a rush of adrenaline watching King of Dirt in “David’s Backyard” with great animation and a Dj. It was insane watching all the tricks the riders were pulling. Backflips, supermans, tabletops, 360, tailwhip and lots more. 40 riders took part in this expert competition were they were judged on the highest jump, best flow and best tricks.

The Dual Slalom followed next where 32 riders took part in this obstacle race. A fast course jumping over fires and ending with a drop. The spectators simply loved the show!

Once over, everyone gathered around a huge bonfire, listening to the great music performers that were playing. I was quite happy to enjoy a delicious hotdog from Mr. Saucisse and a savoury salad from Végé Prêt à Manger. It was a great way to end a beautiful day, surrounded by other mountain bike enthusiasts and sharing beers from the Trou du Diable microbrewery.

Camping was available for those who wished to stay for the night.

It was my first time attending this event and I’m already looking forward to next year! Great organisation, awesome trails for all rider levels, bike, beer, BBQ, live band and all that with exceptional weather!

Thanks again for an epic weekend!
