Indeed ! First, waiting for the arctic cold of the past 2 days to fade away, and then, patience at the lifts to get back up and enjoy the beautiful conditions offered today, as lots of people had been waiting to get back outside and play, and it surely looked that way.
The “first tracks” of the morning were super pleasant, if you could get there early. The mountain reported more than 40 cm of new snow received in the past 7 days. Enough to add some new terrain to play, Alfred Desrochers side is now accessible for smoother runs, with no traffic in the early hours.
From “Alfred Desrochers” side, a nice view of the “Giroux North” side.
And then, for a greater challenge, a visit to the “Giroux Est” side, a longly awaited opening for regulars, with more difficult terrain.
Beautiful conditions, pretty much everywhere today, with 90 % of the terrain now accessible, lots of variety to choose from. Still good snow in the woods. Amongst others, I visited the “Petit Canyon” trail and the more difficult “Contour” to give my legs a good workout. The staff did a very good job giving us well groomed trails. Groomed, packed natural powder, on firm bases, and little patches of ice was on the menu today on those. We can now say winter is really back in force good dump of snow after spring like temperatures, and after an episode of freezing cold.
Little misfortune however in the morning, as the main “hybrid” chair suffered technical glitches forcing a stoppage for a couple of hours. The “Rapido” chair located a little higher on the hill, so not accessible from the bottom, was he only way to get at the “Orford” side summmit. Needless to say it created a “traffic jam “at the other lifts.
Luckily, it was back in operation shortly before lunchtime.
Temperatures will continue to rise tomorrow, a maximum of minus -3 degrees celsius, with variable skies. Some flurries are also expected.
But that’s not all…It’s a little early to be sure, but some weather patterns show that the area could get 5-10 cm more towards the end of this week (around Thursday). Let’s wait and see.
